Pixel Forest Media – A company to avoid.

Pixel Forest Media: My Experience with Jackson Hu and Joanne He — A Company to Avoid

I don’t usually write posts like this. In this industry, you learn to just move on to the next job, stay quiet, and keep your head down. But after my experience with Pixel Forest Media, and specifically with Jackson Hu and Joanne He, I feel like it’s my responsibility to speak up.

If you’re a crew member, a cast member, or anyone considering working with them, my advice is simple: avoid them at all costs. This isn’t just about money — though, yes, they don’t pay crew — it’s about safety, honesty, and basic respect.

The Payment Lies

When I first got the call for the job, it sounded promising. I was told I’d be paid fairly and that a deposit would be in my account before I even loaded my gear. That deposit never came.

What followed was weeks of lies, excuses, and delays. By the end of production, not a cent had been paid — not for the labor, not for the gear I supplied, not even for the out-of-pocket expenses I covered to help keep the production moving.

And it wasn’t just me. Other crew members admitted they were experiencing the same thing. They were strung along, told what they wanted to hear, and then ignored when they followed up.

Unsafe Sets and No Respect for Safety

Payment aside, what really shook me were the safety issues on set.

There were dangerous stunts performed without coordinators. I watched an actor get hurt because no one bothered to rehearse or take basic precautions.

Knives were brought onto set for scenes without an armourer or safety officer to oversee their handling. It was reckless and unprofessional, putting everyone at unnecessary risk.

Road scenes were shot without traffic control, without permits, and without even basic safety measures. We were standing in the middle of road trying to get the shot while cars go past.

When someone raised a concern, there was usually an egotistical conflict from the Director. A few people who pushed harder were removed from the production entirely.

Cast Members Put at Risk

The cast didn’t have it any better.

There were scenes — especially intimate scenes — that were handled in ways that were deeply unprofessional. No intimacy coordinator. No proper briefings. Actors were pushed into situations without clear communication or consent, leaving them confused and uncomfortable.

I remember watching actors in tears after particularly rough days on set. Instead of being cared for or supported, they were pressured to keep performing, no matter how unsafe or inappropriate the situation had become.

Threats and Intimidation

After the shoot wrapped and the unpaid invoices piled up, things got worse. Crew members who pushed for the pay they were owed were met with resistance and intimidation.

The message was clear: if you keep asking for payment, you will face consequences. It created a climate of fear and silence, leaving many people too exhausted or scared to continue chasing what they were rightfully owed.

Pixel Forest Media Is a Scam

There’s no other way to put it: Pixel Forest Media is a scam. They take your time, your energy, your gear, your creativity, and then they disappear when it’s time to honor their commitments.

I’ve worked on tough productions before. I’ve been underpaid, overworked, and underfed — that happens in this industry. But never, not once, have I experienced the level of deceit and disrespect I saw with Jackson Hu and Joanne He.

Why You Should Avoid Them

If you’re thinking about taking a job with Pixel Forest Media, here’s my advice: don’t.

  • Don’t believe the promises.
  • Don’t expect to be paid.
  • Don’t expect your safety, or the safety of your cast, to be taken seriously.

They talk big and promise a lot, but when it comes time to do the right thing, they vanish, leaving crew and cast members unpaid and disrespected.

To My Fellow Crew Members

I know how hard it is to speak up. We all love this industry, and no one wants to risk future opportunities. But staying silent only protects companies like this and allows them to keep doing the same thing to the next group of unsuspecting crew.

If you’ve worked for Pixel Forest Media, or you’ve been through something similar, document everything. Keep your records. If you’re not paid, take action — through your union, through legal channels, whatever it takes.

Most importantly, warn others. If someone asks you about Pixel Forest Media, tell them the truth: avoid Jackson Hu, avoid Joanne He, and don’t let them waste your time, your skills, or your safety.

Since then many of the cast and crew have commenced legal actions but are just being ignored by the company or told continually that “We’ll make payment when we can”. It’s over 6 months since the job completed.
